While the Township of Uxbridge is already a fantastic community to call home, what would a community be without change and development?
According to the Township’s Development Services Department, which facilitates and implements planning policy and development services such as building activities, the Official Plan for the future of Uxbridge “Guides growth and development within the urban limits of the Town of Uxbridge,” while The Durham Region Official Plan “guides land uses within the rural areas of Uxbridge.”
The Township of Uxbridge has also developed an economic plan, which was adopted by Council in June 2013 to support the area’s dynamic economy. This action plan, which sees the Township through 2018, implements the four strategies of the broader Vibrant North Durham Economic Development Plan including:
- Be open for business
- Inspire and support entrepreneurship
- Create a vibrant future for young adults
- Build a stronger rural and small town identity
Also of note to the future of Uxbridge includes the planned extension of Highway 407 coming further into Durham Region, as well as the proposed GO Transit train servicing Uxbridge in the future, making it easier than ever for residents to commute outside of this idyllic setting.
Of course with 45 per cent of the Township of Uxbridge being located within the Oak Ridges Moraine, it’s important to note that the Township has made a commitment to protecting this area so these extensive rural and natural areas can be enjoyed well into the future.
