JACKSON'S POINT

See What's for sale

Jackson’s Point is located approximately 60km north of Toronto, on the south shores of Lake Simcoe. Navy Captain William Bouchier purchased the original land grant in 1819 and used the area as a wharf facility for schooners traveling Lake Simcoe, so it is no surprise that Jackson’s Point continues to be a marine hub that offers safe and friendly haven to boaters. Harbour attendants are on duty to serve residents and tourists alike, and security is provided until 2:00am.

This small community offers plenty to do.  The Lionshead Lakefront Resort & Yacht Club offers beach volleyball and live music on the concert patio throughout the summer. Winter activities include snowmobile trails, whirlpool hot tubs, saunas and a heated indoor pool to help beat the chills. The Lakeview House Golf Course, begun in 1923, offers a 9-hole course and a glimpse of deer and other local wildlife for the ‘early risers’.

Not to be outdone, the Briars Golf Club offers an 18-hole golf resort with full service spa and horse-drawn carriage rides. It stands as one of Ontario’s finest private clubs. The Briars also offers many programmes, both indoor and outdoor, ranging from tennis, volleyball and mountain biking to swimming, yoga and billiards.

In case the activities of the living aren’t what you’re after, you can head over to Jackson’s Landing, a majestic mansion purported to be haunted. Contractors have actually witnessed a ghostly manifestation in the basement, that of a prominent businessman. Others have reported seeing an early settler from around 200 years ago.

Sibbald Point Provincial Park is an ideal destination for seasonal tourists. As one of Ontario’s largest campgrounds, Sibbald Point offers everything the avid camper and family could want. From soccer, football and baseball during the summer months to an annual ice fishing derby in the winter, visitors can always find fun ways to spend their time.
