Nestled away on a serene country road in Embro, Ontario, just west of Stratford, lies the enchanting Deep Purple Lavender Farm. This hidden treasure captivates visitors with its peaceful ambiance, surrounded by lush greenery and dotted with rows of vibrant lavender.
The discovery of Deep Purple Lavender Farm can feel like stumbling upon a hidden gem. Such was the case when the farm was first mentioned during a visit from a family member, who shared glowing stories of the farm’s beauty and the incredible products made there. Despite living in Stratford for years, the farm had remained an unknown treasure until that fateful conversation. Intrigued by the description, a spontaneous visit to the farm the very next day proved to be a memorable experience.
Upon arrival, the farm exudes a tranquil atmosphere. An elderly gentleman and a young boy, who were enjoying a treat at a picnic table, added a touch of warmth to the scene. The little boy, full of excitement, eagerly offered fish food to feed the fish in the pond, while his grandfather proudly spoke of the “huge” fish waiting to be fed. This heartwarming encounter set the tone for the rest of the visit.
A stroll along the paths reveals much more than just rows of lavender. The setting is quiet, serene, and surrounded by large trees that frame the fields, creating a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The farm is not just about lavender; it’s a place where passion and creativity flourish.
Managed by Chris and Donna Schurman, along with Donna’s mother, Deep Purple Lavender Farm has been cultivating and producing high-quality lavender products since 2019. With over 3,200 lavender plants, including more than 10 different English and French varieties, the farm offers a delightful array of fragrant fresh and dried bouquets, as well as small-batch beauty products, hydrosol/essential oils, and culinary items, all available in their quaint cottage store.
Visitors to the farm are greeted with the warm and genuine hospitality of Donna, whose infectious smile reflects the passion she and her family have for their work. Inside the store, Donna’s mother can often be found patiently harvesting buds from lavender stems, creating pretty sachets—a must-have for any lavender lover.
The farm also grows refreshing lemongrass and peppermint, which are incorporated into their natural product offerings. These products are available for purchase at the farm store, enabling visitors to take a piece of the farm’s charm home with them.
For those unable to visit in person, the farm offers an online store where customers can purchase their favorite lavender products, which can be picked up at the farm or shipped across Canada.
