Hani Rashid immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1967. Expo was “the highlight of Canada’s Centennial celebrations in 1967”, according to Canadian Encyclopedia. How fortuitous it was for Hani to attend Expo at the age of nine; most certainly a life-changing and inspirational experience that was pivotal in Hani’s trajectory of his life and career.
I have followed Hani’s work for many years after being introduced to his mother at a women’s networking event. Hani’s father was an artist and his brother Karim, an industrial designer, is considered one of the most prolific designers with over 4000 designs in production. http://www.karimrashid.com/overview#about
Both Hani and his partner Lisa Ann Couture founded their firm Asymptote in 1989. Incidentally, the definition of asymptote is “a line that continually approaches a given curve but does not meet it at any finite distance.” They describe their firm as “not only an innovative architecture firm, but also a design “think tank”. With a multi-scale and multi-disciplinary approach, we are able to assume a fresh perspective and generate creative solutions by thinking outside the box.”
Although they are based in New-York City their portfolio of work is worldwide and extensive including:
The ARC – River Culture Multimedia Theatre Pavilion
Daegu, South Korea

National Sports Center
Beijing, China

Sejong Center for Performing Arts
Sejong, South Korea

Strata Tower Condominium
Al Raha Beach, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Yas Viceroy and Formula 1 Circuit
Abu Dhabi, UAE

Chor Resdence
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

The Missoni Baia
Miami, USA
Hani Rashid along with a collective team of designers, discussed their involvement in the Missoni Baia $150m project during a recent meeting that I attended. This luxury condominium development stands 649 ft. with 57-floors and is considered a “Visionary Architectural Landmark” on Biscayne Bay in Miami Florida.
The Missoni Baia project resulted from a collaboration with a number of highly esteemed design firms including the Missoni House; a world-class design group in Italy, Paris Forino, Interior Design based in NY, Revuelta Architecture of Miami and Enzo Enea, of Enea Garden Design. Enzo is a world-renowned industrial engineer and landscape architect who has completed more than 1,000 gardens for private residences, hotels, resorts and parks around the world. Enzo designed the intricate landscaping of the Missoni Baia including the waterfront landscape of plantings and pools with a bayfront boardwalk connecting to Downtown Miami.
Visit the Missoni Baia website at www.missonibaia.com if you would like to obtain more information about his luxury condominium development on Biscayne Bay.
