Residents enjoy larger properties on quiet, wide streets with large, 30-foot trees. Most homes have large front and backyards, offering plenty of space and peaceful, private retreats. The community consists of both young couples with children often see out walking dogs, biking or playing in nearby Andale Park and older, retired couples. Residents enjoy the best of Waterloo within easy access while having their own privacy and plentiful space. Colonial Acres attracts single professionals and young, active couples with higher disposable incomes who wish to live closer to their place of work and entertainment facilities. There are plentiful restaurants nearby.

While the area does not have public schools within its boundaries, there are schools nearby such as the Lester B. Pearson Public School for grades 1-6 with French immersion, high school study at Bluevale Collegiate Institute and Catholic school education at both St. Luke Catholic School and St. David Catholic Secondary School.
