Stay fit and have fun playing tennis

shutterstock_93659377If you’re like me you’re always looking for new and fun ways to stay fit. Many of you have likely played tennis at some point in your lives, but if you’re new to the sport I’m thrilled to tell you about how enjoyable it can be, and that York Region offers plenty of opportunities to play the sport year round.

Playing a weekly, or more regular, game of tennis might never get you into the high-profile tournaments like the U.S. Open or Wimbledon Championships, but that’s okay. Playing a regular game of tennis is a super way to stay in shape and be social at the same time.

Since our Canadian outdoor season is relatively short, it’s great that York Region is home to many indoor tennis courts and clubs for you to enjoy.

Residents of Woodbridge can enjoy year round play at Veneto Tennis Club. Located at 7465 Kipling Ave., the permanent, indoor tennis club features six hard courts, lounge with viewing area, as well as shower, saunas, lockers and a fully stocked tennis pro shop. You can choose from winter only, or annual membership and the club also offers a variety of lesson types.

In Richmond Hill, tennis players can enjoy the six colour coded tennis courts under a dome at the Richmond Hill Winter Tennis Club. Members of all ages can use the men’s and ladies’ change rooms and showers, as well as the carpeted lounge with viewing area. The competitively priced pro shop offers racquet stringing and use of the state-of-the-art ball machine.

Timberlane Athletic Club in Aurora features newly resurfaced cushioned hard course. In the five indoor courts, adults and juniors can enjoy year round tennis programs including casual play, social events, inter-club play, lessons and clinics with a wide variety of opportunities existing for players of all abilities.

Newmarket residents have been participating in the Newmarket Winter Tennis Club for 32 seasons. Facilities used for the club include Crossland and Blackmore Tennis Clubs and offer an extensive range of programs for players of all ages.

Do you know about any other indoor tennis courts and clubs in York Region? I’m always looking for new places to play and share with my clients. Please leave a comment below.
