Lake Huron: Ontario’s Muskoka Alternative


The first time I saw Lake Huron, it took my breath away. It was back in 2010, when my husband
and I visited his hometown of Sarnia. I remember standing at the shoreline, mesmerized by the
turquoise hue of the lake, the vast expanse of open water stretching endlessly before me. Having
spent years living on the shores of Lake Simcoe, I thought I knew what “big water” looked like.
But Lake Huron was different — it felt boundless, like an ocean in the heart of Ontario.

My husband was born and raised on these shores, and every time we visit family and friends,

waterfront property here sold for around $1.25 million, with some homes reaching as high as
$2.8 million. These are beautiful properties with direct waterfront access, and as of August, there
are still 24 listings available, with an average list price of just over $1.4 million. Compared to
Muskoka, these numbers represent tremendous value for a lifestyle that’s every bit as serene.

standing on those sandy shores, watching the sun dip into the horizon, turning the sky into a
masterpiece. It’s the warmth of the small communities, the privacy, the charm, and the fact that
this gem of a region hasn’t been over-commercialized.
