Colour Trends for 2018

While the 2018 Pantone colour of the year has yet to be selected, most major paint companies have selected lists of colour palettes that will be popular in the year to come. According to Pantone, the 2018 colour forecast includes metallic moving into neutrals and a move away from pastels and into more intense colours.

Benjamin Moore paints has selected Caliente AF-290 as the colour of the year. This strong, radiant colour plays right into the Pantone prediction of intense colours making a splash in 2018. It’s full of energy and can be used in an area or hall carpet, a backdrop on a statement wall or a cheery greeting on a front door.

Paint maker Sherwin-Williams selected 36 colours back in June of this year that will be popular in 2018. They fall under three categories:

  • Affinity
  • Connectivity and
  • Sincerity

Affinity includes everything from striking blue and fuchsia to stabilizing brown while connectivity takes its inspiration from tech and includes pixelated oranges, digital blues and greens and yellow. Sincerity, meanwhile, plays off the minimalism trends and incorporates softer neutrals including greens, greys and browns that are more fluid.

Behr’s In The Moment is that paint maker’s colour of the year for 2018. It’s a cool, tranquil spruce blue that marks the first ever paint of the year for this brand.

And finally Dulux offers a palette of colour trends that begins with Balance, which attempts to balance the complex changes of life, includes Kinship, which is rich and earth and will fill you with positivity, Essential, which is calm and nurturing, dreamy Escapade that will inspire discovery and escape, as well as Reflect, which includes juicy, moody hues to blend the past with the present.
